As most of you may know, sex work has been legal in the Netherlands since the year 2000. However, the legality depends on the specific category of work.

In the Netherlands, escort services are legal if the escort holds a permit. The requirement for a permit varies by municipality and Local Ordinance (APV).
Hotel Visits
Escorts often visit hotels. Have you ever noticed that the escort asks you to book the hotel room?
This is not just for her discretion, but also because it is illegal for the escort to book it herself.
Then they see the room as a workplace – and therefore requiring a permit for it.
If the client books the room, it is considered legal to meet an escort there.
Often, regulations from hotels prohibit hosting escorts. However, they cannot enforce such rules strictly due to privacy laws. In all these years, neither I nor any of my clients have ever encountered this. I am convinced that if we behave properly, do not cause any disturbance, and maintain discretion, hotels have no reason to ask us to leave.

A permit is required to host sex work dates at home for that particular address. The location must also be specified in the zoning plan. These permits are often harder to obtain, and neighbours can object.
